Bushings help to absorb small amounts of shock and keep suspension components in the right places. Over time, the elements take their toll on the soft squishy rubber. As such, the bush hardens and starts to crack / split / tear.
As the bushing hardens, it also begins to fail. Alignment can go off, tyres may then wear prematurely & unevenly, knocking sounds will be introduced and vehicle handling will become floppy.
Cracking of the rubber bushing occurs naturally over time. This reduces the effectiveness of the rubber bushing in absorbing shock thats attempting to make its way to the cabin.
